Lisandro Lopez insists Mauro Icardi should make Argentina’s Copa America squad

Former Inter Milan ace Lisandro Lopez has said that Argentina must call up Mauro Icardi for the Copa America during the summer. The striker was recently excluded from the national setup amid his lack of gametime with the Nerazzurri, but he has managed to sort out the concerns in the run-in to the end of the season.

Speaking to TyC Sports, Lopez indicated that Icardi is presently one of the best strikers in the world and it is a no-brainer for Argentina to select him for the summer’s Copa America in Brazil, he said: “He is one of the best number nines in the world. There is no doubt about it. He had some problems with Inter but now he is back on the field playing and he will soon find form again. In my opinion he must be called up by Argentine for the Copa America because he has a lot to give to the national team.”

“Icardi was stripped from the captaincy at Inter during the month of February“ and thereafter, the marksman was excluded from first-team duty amid a contract dispute with the board. However, he has managed to sort out the differences to return “to the starting lineup“ but that may not necessarily reward him with a starting role at the Copa America.

Icardi’s compatriot and clubmate Lautaro Martinez has been getting a fair run with the national team over the past year, but neither of the two could be assured to start at the summer tournament.
Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni has decided against calling up Sergio Aguero from Manchester City since the World Cup, but the experienced campaigner could make a surprise comeback during the summer after enjoying another standout season with the Citizens. The 30-year-old has contributed 30 goals and nine assists through the current campaign.
