Marcelo Lippi praises Inter Milan’s progress under Luciano Spalletti

Former Italy manager Marcelo Lippi has been pleased with the progress made by Inter Milan under the guidance of head coach Luciano Spalletti. The Nerazzurri managed to qualify for the Champions League after a six-year wait during the previous campaign and they have since carried over the form to the new season where they have impressed with the start.

Speaking to reporters, Lippi highlighted that the Nerazzurri are now aware of their strengths unlike the previous campaign, he said: “Inter are aware of their strengths now. They know they can get a result at any time. Spalletti has made everyone feel involved, just like Ancelotti does. When I saw on Monday that Joao Mario, who hadn’t played since January, would be starting I knew that Inter would win the game.”

Inter managed to secure the fourth position on the standings during the final game of the previous season after they came from behind to register a 3-2 win over 10-men Lazio. Since then, they have not done much in terms of spending in the transfer market but the players within the squad have formed a cohesion, which has brought the best out of the team.

“Spalletti’s side most recently secured a 3-0 win over Lazio on the road and with the result “, they have jumped to second on the table, six points behind league leaders Juventus. Meanwhile, they have also made progress on their Champions League return with two victories from three matches and another win “could seal their berth“ into the knockouts ahead of Tottenham and PSV Eindhoven.

Inter’s next league meeting comes against Genoa at the San Siro this weekend and they would thereafter turn their attention to the Champions League where Barcelona make the trip. The Catalan giants are presently on nine points from three matches played and another triumph would seal them a round of 16 spot with the assurance of the top position.
