Walter Novellino backs Beppe Marotta to make Inter Milan stronger

Experienced Italian manager Walter Novellino has backed Inter Milan to make progress under the control of Beppa Marotta. The 61-year-old was recruited as the new chief executive during the month of December and Novellino believes his compatriot can transform the Nerazzurri into potential title challengers in the future.

He said:“It is certainly an important and exciting arrival. I know Beppe very well and I know that he will want space to work but he will have no problems working with Piero Ausilio. I also know Piero, alongside one another they can do very well to say the least. With Marotta the Nerazzurri can only get stronger. Beppe is a director who will able to transfer his great experience to Inter. He has worked for several years at Juventus and lead them from seventh place to winning seven straight Italian titles.”

Inter were fancied to lodge a strong challenge for the Serie A crown this term but they have struggled to meet the expectations with a 14-point gap already at the halfway stage of the season. Moreover, they have also suffered the elimination from the Champions League despite being in a comfortable position at one stage and that would have undoubtedly left a sour taste among the club’s faithful.

Nonetheless, “there are positives from the fact that the club“ are comfortably placed in the top-four positions in the Serie A and they have “an eight-point gap“ with fifth-placed AC Milan to play with during the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, they could still vie for European glory through the Europa League and they may need better consistency with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Napoli on their route to the silverware. Inter return from the winter break with a Copa Italia clash against Benevento on Sunday. The Nerazzurri sealed a double over the minnows in the league last term.
