MILAN FORCED TO CHANGE TRANSFER PLAN

Italian football giants AC Milan have been forced to change their transfer plan ahead of January after Danish defender Simon Kjaer picked up a knee injury that has left the Rossoneri with just three centre backs.

Danish international Kjaer sustained a serious knee injury during the win over Genoa on Wednesday and he will undergo surgery to correct the problem on Friday. To this effect, Italian football club AC Milan will have to abandon their previous transfer strategy to sign a new defender when the winter transfer window reopens in a matter of a few weeks.

Italian football giants Milan are yet to provide an injury update on Kjaer, but the expectation is that the Denmark national team skipper will miss several weeks due to the knee injury. An update from the Rossoneri will go a long way to determine the recovery period for the player.

AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini is a director at the Italian football club these days and he told reporters that Milan won't be adding new faces to their squad in the winter transfer window next month, but that is almost certain to change with the knee injury sustained by Kjaer.

With Kjaer out for several weeks, Milan boss Stefano Pioli will have just three options for two centre back options if they don't address it in the January transfer window. The three centre back options available for Pioli are AlessioRomagnoli, FikayoTomori and Matteo Gabbia.

Italian publication Calciomercato recently reported that Milan are keen on signing Brazilian defender Gleison Bremer from Torino and that they face stiff competition for his signature.

Apart from Gleison, the other Milan defensive targets are Benoit Badiashile of French team AS Monaco, Lens FC of France star Facundo Medina and Caleb Okoli who's presently on loan from Atalanta. Okoli plays for Cremonese in the lower leagues as far as Italian football is concerned. The possible return of Mattia Caldara from his loan spell at Serie A newcomers Venezia is also an option for the Rossoneri.
