Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has been praised by Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri after the club’s win against Lyon in the Champions League.

This European competition remains as the primary objective for the Italian outfit. They came very close to winning the title a couple of years ago only to be beaten by Barcelona – widely adjudged as the best team in the world in the last decade. As a result, Juventus are very keen on doing well in this Champions League. Unlike in the last few seasons, there is no real favourite for the title since almost every top club has a weakness.

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to enjoy more time off during the international break. The Sweden international is to get double break-time from the club’s schedule during the September break, Coach Jose Mourinho revealed.
Teams will be competing during the international break in the World Cup qualifiers with the hope of getting a ticket to the tournament in Russia. Manchester United decided to give the players two days off each, but Mourinho said the 34-year old would get extra time for more rest.

Roberto Mancini was expected to lead the Inter Milan team into a new Italian Serie A season but an abrupt breakdown in the relationship with the club owners has led to his swift departure just before the start of the new season.

It is understood that Mancini did not agree with the club’s new transfer policy. His failure to have achieved results to back up his words ultimately proved to be his undoing. He has now left the club with immediate effect and the club wasted no time in bringing his successor. Ajax manager Frank de Boer has been appointed as his replacement.
