Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger convinced Tomori to join AC Milan

AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori has revealed that Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger played an influential role in convincing him to leave Chelsea to sign up for the Italian outfit. The 25-year-old was a product of the Chelsea youth system before making his debut under Frank Lampard. However,Tomori failed to sustain a place in the starting line-up even during the days of Lampard.

After a lot of contemplation,Tomori decided to join AC Milan in January 2021 for an initial loan deal that was later converted into a permanent move. The 25-year-old has been able to enjoy his life at AC Milan and has already been able to pick up the Italian Serie A title.

During his days at Chelsea,Tomori was able to learn from some of the best names in the business like Thiago Silva. Antonio Rudiger was also at the peak of his powers. The latter was able to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.Tomori, meanwhile, has already racked up 82 games for AC Milan in the last couple of years. However, he has been unable to get a call up to the national team and had a more to his three appearances for the Three Lions. Rudiger was with the Italian outfit Roma before moving to Chelsea in 2017 while Thiago Silva featured in more than 100 appearances for Milan in three seasons.

I spoke to some of the boys at Chelsea who’d been in Italy — Toni Rudiger, Mateo Kovacic and Emerson. Toni had been at Roma, and he was always going on and on about how good the support was. Then there was Thiago Silva. He didn’t even speak English, but when he heard what we were talking about he just went, ‘Milan?’ and gave a massive thumbs up! I was like, O.K., get me on that plane!” said Tomori.
